Summary
Concerning Charlotte Brontë's Villette; saying "What you send me is good, and is a help. Mr. Heger is Paul Emmanuel - & don't you see the likeness in all that your friend says of his fulfilment of his duties as a member of the Society of S. Vincent de Paul. But I crave for more - I wish I knew Brussels - that glimpse of the Rue d'Isabelle at the foot of an escalier en pierres is picturesque - & one wants the frame-work of locality because she was so much influenced by places & surroundings. Has M. Heger written anything - I know the school was considered 2nd rate ; & I have heard that it has suffered by the publication of Villette. Can you ascertain if this is true? I should like to know a pupil of Madame Becks. She had many English. I thank you. I am like Oliver Twist. I "ask for more."
