Summary
Being a collection of 13 autograph letters signed, to John Shore, Baron Teignmouth, written between 1793 and 1796, from London, Eye (Suffolk), Chennai, and other locations, discussing the transition from Cornwallis to Shore as Governor-General of India (Shore served as Governor-General from 1793 to 1798) and Indian affairs generally. Subjects covered include the discord between Henry Dundas and the Court of Directors of the East India Company over the appointment of Jonathan Duncan as Governor of Bombay, the trial of Warren Hastings, the French Revolutionary Wars, and Cornwallis's plans for the military establishment in India. Five of the letters are letters of introduction. Items in the collection have been described individually in separate catalog records; see related records for more information.
