Notes
Childers and Cowper were early members of the Cruising Association and through it shared a love of sailing.
Two letters are dated, November 7, 1897 and March 2, 1909 and two letters do not include the year of writing but are written on stationery from London which gives an approximate range of years from 1895 when Childers assumed a Clerkship in the House of Commons and 1919 when he left his flat in Chelsea to move to Dublin. The letter dated November 7, 1897 is written aboard his boat the "Vixen" from Flensburg, Germany.
Acquired with thirteen letters to Cowper from Lillie Langtry, Kenneth Grahame, Quiller-Couch and others which are cataloged separately. This collection was originally accessioned as MA 4320.
