Thomas Percy, Bishop of Dromore and editor of Reliques of Ancient English Poetry, was involved in questioning the authenticity of poems that the teenage poet Thomas Chatterton had attributed to a 15th-century monk called Thomas Rowley, though they were actually his own creations. The identity of the curious "Gentleman" that Camden refers to in this letter is unknown.
