Requesting that he deliver the enclosed letter to the King regarding a personal matter relating to his mother; congratulating him on "having so steadily steered the vessel of state & by your spirited prudent & timely precautions, saved our land from that state of anarchy and revolution which every lover of his country must deplore.;" noting that his region is tranquil "excepting a little popular ebullition attendant on Elections & the feelings of some Highlanders where it has been attempted to remove from them farms in Ross shire (injudiciously I own I think in these times,)...."
