The date of writing is given on the title page.
Boyse has written three notes on the title page and other pages that mimic the information that might be provided in a printed edition of the work. They are the following: "First Written in the Year MDCCXXXIII"; "With Additions"; and "Stanzas marked thus [a red star] are not in the printed edition."
With a manuscript frontispiece decorated with Gordon's coat-of-arms; a manuscript title page, with vignettes; and the preface "To his Grace, Cosmo, Duke of Gordon." Vignettes appear elsewhere in the manuscript as well.
At the end of the manuscript, Boyse includes a list of thirty-two individuals referred to the poem, all members of the Scottish nobility.
