Summary
Confirming that she did not send a Robert Louis Stevenson story called "The Witch Woman" or "The Waif Woman" to Scribner's; complaining about published portrayals of Stevenson's last years, saying that he was not "financially embarrassed," and comparing her experience reading one recent account to "watching a drunken man trying to walk a chalk line. The author had his incidents right, but his interpretation--he wavered and slipped and slid, and never hit the truth once"; and hoping that Wagenknecht's work-in-progress will not be a psychoanalysis of Stevenson.
