Summary
Sending him a critical essay on Wordsworth that he contributed to "The Month;" saying "I observe from a circular lately sent to me that the new edition of Wordsworth is to include criticisms on his works; I send you one accordingly which I contributed to "The Month". Many even of Wordsworths ardent admirers have seemed to admit, in their critiques that Wordsworth is not a Poet of Passion. This seems to me a misconception of what Poetic Passion is, & an admission most injurious to Wordsworth, for all high Poetry is impassioned. My Essay was written to set forth Wordsworth's claim in this respect. It is at your service if you think it can be made use of in the new edition of his works. If not, you will oblige me by letting me have it back."
