Expressing pleasure that Knight liked his poems and that Knight plans to mention them in connection with Wordsworth's "Ecclesiastical Sonnets;" adding, in a postscript, "You will observe that the sketch of Becket & of Alexander represent the two Ideals of Greatness, the Christian Ideal & Pagan - the Christian founded on Humility - seeming to fail yet succeeding - the Pagan founded on Pride - seeming to succeed yet failing - the Christian always advancing, the Pagan declining."
