Summary
Thanking him for sending him "...that volume of rare interest to all who have a feeling for St. Andrews, & also the Taormina lecture. How vividly my stay at Taormina - among the most delightful months of my life - came back upon this memory! You have recalled so truly the spirit of the place. I do not feel as if I had the materials for forming a good judgment on the Philosophical Series you have planned. Since the scheme first took shape, [illegible] have been multiplied & it would need some one who is more au courant than I am with the needs of the public & their present supply to give advice worth having. Still, so far as I am aware, your ground has not yet been occupied. On my return to London (tomorrow or next day) I will return Taormina, & with it will go my sincere thanks. Allow me to assure you how much I valued your kind words on my retirement from the Greek Chair.
