Summary
Thanking him for a copy of his book; saying "I had only time to glance through the titles of the Essays & put up the book with others that are being dispatched to me in Ireland. It will be one of my holiday pleasures to read it. Please accept my warmest thanks. You pray have heard that I had to give up work before Xmas (owing to an attack of influenza) & seek Southern Sunshine. This we found with many other indescribable delights in Sicily, whence we have returned in the last few weeks. I am now perfectly restored. I trust you are much stronger than you were."
