Summary
Concerning the legal issues concerning St. Andrews and Dundee; saying "No further step can be taken till the Privy Council deals with the Appeals ag'st the Ord'ces. Meanwhile we believe that by common consent the question is not to be raised in the Lords or Commons. But it is not improbable that if the appeal is dismissed, the Duke of Argyll will bring in a Bill for the Dissolution of the Union. An absurd thing, if any practical result is looked for, as no private Members' Bill w'd have a chance of passing. Lord Bute's whole policy is disastrous to St. Andrews, little as is capable of seeing it. For the present however Parliamentary action is in abeyance. It will be necessary afterward for St. Andrews (those, I mean, who are not committed to ruinous courses) to reconsider the situation."
