Summary
Expressing his sympathy for the decision of the "Court and Senators of St. Andrews & the Council of Dundee;" saying "The resolution of the Senators is an important one, & the latter part of it is probably wise unless the circumstances, as the question of supposed illegality will otherwise never be set at rest...I feel very keenly for all of you men whose proper work is being broken & your life harassed & your salaries kept down by this irreconcileable [sic] kind of opposition."
