Summary
Expressing his distress at hearing of his "...great anxiety - a sad beginning of the New Year. But we hope & trust that the slight improvement of which you speak may continue & that when we meet (as I hope we shall next week) you may be able to give a much better account: inviting him to lunch in Edinburgh the following Wednesday and asking that he let him know by postcard whether 1 pm or 3 pm suits him better.
