Summary
Saying that he is glad that Knight has written to the Dove Cottage Committee about his gifts (see MA 9087.35 for context); writing that he hopes the matter will be settled at a Committee meeting before Knight leaves for America, but he fears that this is unlikely, "because the members of the Committee in London will be scarcely numerous enough to form a quorum [...] I shall be away in Scotland, William [probably William Brooke] is in Ireland, you are away, & so I think is [Alfred] Ainger"; mentioning that he is sorry to hear that Knight has been worried and ill: "Do you ever think that you keep too many irons in the fire at the same time? I think you do -- too many at least for your health. I hope America will do you good. At least, it will protect you from small worries"; discussing times when they might meet during Brooke's trip to Scotland: "But I am rather hurried & scurried, & not able to do much. I have written to Hunter, begging off one of the lectures he wrung out of me. I hate lecturing."
