Concerning the proper acknowledgment of Knight's gifts to Dove Cottage and confusion over what was desired; suggesting that Knight write a letter addressed to the Committee and Trustees of Dove Cottage (care of Macmillan and Company) "offering the gifts & making your own conditions as to their guardianship"; recusing himself from the process from there on out; telling Knight that he "can also ask to see, as I think you should see, the Act or Charter by which Dove Cottage was established as a National Property & its future arranged."
