Summary
Apologizing for not being able to see him earlier in the day: "I was sorry when I heard late this afternoon that you had called this morning when I was engaged. A person in great trouble was with me"; suggesting times and dates to meet; telling him that the bookseller Bain has valued his Wordsworth books (see MA 9087.29) at 35.0.0; commenting on Bain's valuation: "It seems a small sum, but their condition is not very good, and the later editions & those in one Volume have no worth in the market. I think it probably that you would get more for them if you sent them to Sotheby's. I fear the Committee of Dove Cottage -- seeing that they would not want the later editions, & that of the earlier ones -- the Evening Walk & the Ed: 1807 are imperfect would scarcely agree to buy the whole collection -- & to buy only a part would be unfair to you."
