Summary
Asking when Knight will be in London; saying that he could arrange a Dove Cottage Committee meeting during Knight's visit for the formal offer and acceptance of Knight's gift of prints (see MA 9087.28); regarding a collection of books that Knight owns which Brooke would like for Dove Cottage: "Could you bring them up? Then I should propose that you & I should take them to Mr. Bain of 1. Haymarket for valuation, and that this valuation should be submitted to you & me privately. You know Bain & that we could not have a better man, nor one who would more certainly act like a gentleman as well as a business man in this matter. I could then urge the purchase of them on the Committe, & if they thought the sum more than they could afford I would do my best to make up the money elsewhere"; writing that if Knight has decided to keep the books or sell them at auction, he should ignore this offer; re-emphasizing, however, how much he would like to have the books for Dove Cottage; inviting Knight to dine with him.
