Summary
Writing about his health ("in a waver-waver condition"), the closing down of Bedford Chapel, and his plans for the future: "I fear that any continuous public life is now at an end for me [...] I hope however to do a little preaching now & again if I am allowed. At any rate my intelligence & the capacity for writing seem to have partly returned, & I dare say I shall be able to do some more literary work"; inviting Knight to have dinner with him in London next month; discussing the financial situation of Dove Cottage and future acquisitions: "[It] is paying its way, but it has no money to buy things. Indeed I want to buy nothing but books & portraits. I wish we could buy your collection. But, unless we get up a subscription to do so, I see no chance of it. And I sometimes have thought that some provincial museum, like Manchester -- or some university town like Edinburgh Glasgow or St. Andrews would be a safer place for it than Dove Cottage. No one lives in that house, & I often dread fire for it."
