Summary
Asking for the first number of the Wordsworth Society Transactions; writing that he may have some free time in the future: "The Cong. are going to give me a curate! I feel as if I had got back into the Church. To have a curate after nearly -- yes -- 25 years of single-handed work fills me [with] an unknown & wild excitement. It is like a woman having a baby after 20 years of sterility"; explaining that this may allow him to make a trip to St. Andrews, where he would be glad to lecture on "the early Scottish Poets; & preach, if you like, on early Xn. [for "Christian"] stories -- but perhaps your people would not stand that, & would rather have a good emotional discourse about those matters wh. Science for a time has put in the background, but which are sure to reappear, like Oedipus at Colonus, at the end, & be, like him, the strength & Confirmation of the State."
