Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
All of the letters in the collection are written on stationery with the letterhead "9 Douglas Crescent, Edinburgh", the house in which Blackie lived from the summer of 1881 until his death in 1895.
Only one of the letters is dated; this letter, written on February 8, 1895, is in the hand of an amanuensis, though the signature is Blackie's.
