Summary
Acknowledging receipt of Knight's Ms. and accepting it for publication in the July number of the British Quarterly Review; commenting about the North British Review, which had recently ceased publication, that "Lord Acton has clearly no recognition of any thing outside the world of scholars -- A Review must have popular as well as learned Articles"; offering Knight the "remuneration you have been accustomed to" and asking if he would share with him the terms on which Knight had been paid by the North British Review: "If, as I suspect, it had to draw upon the good nature of its friends -- of course we should give you more -- but as we are rearranging terms knowledge of this kind would be of value."
