Informing Beresford that difficulties have arisen with regard to the plan he and Lord Castlereagh had proposed of giving British officers in the Portuguese army an additional allowance; telling him that it has been decided instead to increase their wages to full pay for their respective ranks; informing him that a letter has been sent to the Home Guards on this matter, and that he is enclosing a copy of it; advising him on how to calculate the pay periods.
