Summary
Collection includes official correspondence and letters chiefly addressed to Sir Richard Mayne and Sir Charles Rowan as Joint Commissioners of Police, from members of the public concerning the commendation of individual police officers, the raising of funds to assist policemen wounded in the line of duty, requests for police presence during public events, including the opening of Westminster Abbey in 1831 in preparation for the coronation ceremony, the raising of a statue of the Duke of York, the Goodwood Races, and the attendance of service by the House of Lords; also included are requests for police to be appointed to individual neighborhoods and for an officer to be stationed in the yard of the Rolls House at night.
