Summary
Sending the proofs for the second portion of "the Sleeper" (i.e. his novel "When the sleeper wakes") and observing that "my hand hand has been heavy upon the last few sheets"; mentioning that the "occult stupidity" in the last chapters is gone at last and that he doesn't "think there is anything more to be done to them after this"; expressing his admiration for the illustrations accompanying his novel as it appears in The Graphic, and noting that there is talk of using the illustrations when the novel is issued in book form; remarking that the illustration for the "awakening" departs from the text in "showing jagged glass where really there was an empty frame", and giving his opinion that the depiction of the "Hall of the Atlas" is the weakest of the illustrations.
