Summary
Of all the fuss that he's heard this age past of Ruth's coming to see him (for Ruskin to critique her work), Ruskin is sadly disappointed with her letter. It's of no use whatever her coming (or anybody's coming) to get advice from him in one afternoon. He must examine them [Ruth's pieces] quietly and think them over. No Paris engagements ought to hinder her from what may be the last chance of getting Ruskin's advice. Of course she may come on Thursday if she likes, but it is mere waste of her time. It all depends on her cold. Postscript asks what she wrote to him for, when she had engagements in Paris. He drove two miles to the station to meet her on Thursday and was so disappointed!
