Summary
Concerning a proposal for a letter column (to be published in The Commonwealth) and specifying three-quarters of a column as an appropriate average length; specifying that the column "should be mainly political, and written in an easy gossipy style" and noting that "the paper is decidedly Liberal & Anti-Bonapartist", stating that their last two publications included articles on the Montalembert trial, and would not, therefore, have been allowed in France, and sending some leading articles "that you may see the spirit in which the Editor writes on the public questions."; adding that the column should, in the normal course of things, arrive in Glasgow by Friday morning, but suggesting that, given that it will be coming from France, that it be mailed in time to reach Glasgow by Thursday.
