Summary
Saying that he was surprised and pleased to receive Merwin's note today and that he guesses Roberty Bly sent the translations of Vallejo to him; adding that he is enlosing the proof of "The distant footsteps" and the only error was the misspelling of Mr. Knoepfle's name; stating that it was good of him to suggest sending him things because he is now enclosing four rather short poems that he is struggling with; showing his admiration for Merwin's poems since he first read "The ballad of John Cable and three gentlemen" on its first appearance in the Kenyon Review; concluding that there is no prospect of a trip to New York in the near future due to a threatened illness and other difficulties that are keeping him in Minnesota.
