Summary
Discussing military and political details, including intelligence reports, troops positions and movement, which he wishes Pulteney to transmit to the King's Ministers; refusing to release Captain [Herbert] Taylor to serve as Secretary to Pulteney on his expedition (MA 1275.37); including a letter from Captain Taylor to Pulteney expressing his disappointment in the decision by the Duke of York to deny Pulteney's request to have Taylor on his staff (MA 1275.38); consoling him on the loss at Ferrol, saying "I am more sorry than surprized at the failture of the attempt upon Ferrol and that I thoroughly applaud your determination of reembarking the Troops and not attempting a Siege...(MA 1275.69); informing him that he will not be remaining with his troops in Portugal but rather "...thinking it of essential consequence that the Eastern Army should have a Second in Command in Whom His Majesty can confide, in case of any misfortune happening to Sir Ralph [Abercromby] I have proposed to the King to order You to join Sir Ralph and I trust that in so doing I shall have gratified your wishes as much as I think I have benefitted His Majesty's Service (MA 1275.40).
