There is an unsigned and undated two-page penciled note, formerly housed with the manuscript and now in the collection files, which appears to have been written by a researcher who worked with the Philip Francis correspondence, stating that this manuscript was written by John Calcraft and not by Philip Francis. An earlier catalog record attributed authorship to Francis. The note describes Calcraft's connection to Francis and his reasons for attributing the memoranda to Calcraft.
