Summary
Apologizing for not sending Maynard one of the first copies of his book, A Life of Walt Whitman; telling him that he has written to Methuen and asked them to send him a copy; writing that E. P. Dutton in New York has taken some copies--"& will I hope do more presently"; discussing the reviews in the Times Literary Supplement, the Daily Telegraph, The Clarion, and The Speaker; mentioning that Whitman is being talked about in England "more than normal & people will be reading Leaves of Grass & The Complete Prose over again"; adding "My book has many faults & failings, but it will send people on to Walt: & that is all that matters"; telling Maynard that readers are responding enthusiastically to the illustrations in the book, for which he thanks him: "The Daily Graphic says the frontispiece might stand for the ideal poet--& it does!"
