Summary
Observing that "the capture of Lord Cornwallis's Army has given such a blow to the British Interest that our Tories in general confess the Contest to be decided against them, but it will be a long time before they will become good and useful subjects"; reporting that sixteen ships of the British fleet returned to New York with Henry Clinton and seven ships and about 2500 troops "are supposed to be gone for Charles Town or the West Indias"; saying that he thinks "the fall of Cornwallis will put a stop to the Enemy's Approach from Canada"; mentioning [Thomas] Paine; discussing the recent elections in Philadelphia; telling him that "the money which Col. Lawrence [John Laurens] brought from France has at last Arrived in town from Boston and they are preparing a mint to convert it into American Coins"; introducing him to Benjamin Postell, "a young Gentleman from Carolina" who is delivering this letter.
