Eames was sentenced to death by hanging for the crime of witchcraft and had been in prison for four months when she sent this petition to the governor.
The document is headed "The humble Petition of Rebecka Eames unto his Excellency Sir Wm. Phipps knight & Governor of their Majestyes Dominions in America humbly sheweth..." and is signed "Your poor and humble petitioner Rebecka Eames."
