Summary
Expressing his gratitude and congratulations to the cast of Trilby; saying "Indeed I hope the opportunity might have come without my having to write - but the bustle & excitement of the first night are too great to admit of introductions, &c; so that I have not been able to say all the warm & sincere things I feel either to Taffy or Gecko or Zouzou or Mr. & Mrs. Bagot, or the enchanting Madame Vinard who seems to have restored to me all my early Frenchness! As for the Laird of Cockpen I had been introduced to him on the preceding night, & I hope to see Little Billee very soon. The goodness of everybody even exceeded my expectations, and in consequence of this last night was the most perfect I ever spent at any theatre, even putting aside the extraordinary pleasure I felt at seeing my own fancies turned into [illegible] with never a jar or a hitch of any kind. If I had the time I could write quite a little essay on every character, but you would hardly thank me for this - besides I hope soon to know every member of the company."
