Summary
Referring to the recent duel between Francis and Hastings; expressing his pleasure that Francis was "likely to escape those evil Consequences which had been expected from the Misfortune;" referring to public reaction to Francis's recovery saying that the "Public are more than ever convinced of his Worth and that he is the only Man capable to saving this Country. I can give you no better Proof than the above of the General Testimony in your Favor--But whether the Public will ever be further benefitted by your Services, or no, does not depend on you to determine but on the Disposer of Events. If the Overruling Providence which governs human Events intends that the British Dominion, however abused, shall still be preserved in India, your Endeavors to effect this Purpose may still be prosperous.--If on the Contrary the Day of our Overthrow is come, you struggle in Vain against the Instruments which are raised up to effect it."
