Summary
Discussing the "Jew Bill" before the House of Commons; saying "It looks as if the Jew bill would not from the Commons come to the Lords - but we have in the Lords I think some who will move the matter there, if it miscarries in the Commons - The Ministry appear to oppose it & are at present beaten in the Commons tho' joined with some of us in opposition - in that House it should seem that Ministers can neither carry nor successfully oppose any measure, unassisted by some of the many parties, which themselves weak, cannot make Government, by [illegible], strong but I think the bill not pass there. I know not whether it was, upon principle, or Expediency, that Ministers seemed to oppose in the Commons the Jew Bill - I presume that they have not been able to detect the Jews, as yet, commencing what they saw, and they only saw, the R. Catholics commencing, civil War. When they want Loans, I suppose they will give the Jews the Bonus of Emancipation."
