Notes
Edgeworth dates the letter only "Sunday Morning." According to the DNB, Edgeworth became close friends with the Katers during a visit to London in 1822, thus the estimated date of writing.
Written from: "Grove House / Kensington Gore." This was the home of Lady Elizabeth Whitbread (née Grey), widow of the politician Samuel Whitbread. She lived there from 1816 until her death in 1846.
Address panel: "Mrs Kater / Union Place." Mary Reeve Kater was the wife of the scientist Henry Kater, and the author of a History of England for young people.
