On the verso of the letter, he has penned this note: "Copy of the last letter written by Percy Bysshe Shelley addressed to Mrs. Williams at Villa Magni nr Spezia dated the 4 July 1822, and he was drowned the 6th of the same month. Copied from the original. DR."
