Provenance
The bulk of this collection was assembled by London dealer Frank T. Sabin and offered by him to Pierpont Morgan in 1907. Morgan purchased the collection from Sabin in 1909 and added to it at least two items (MA 406.1 and MA 406.21) in 1911 or later. See individual catalog records for detailed provenance information.
Summary
Collection contains ten autograph letters of Percy Bysshe Shelley to various recipients (including William Godwin, Lord Byron, Leigh Hunt, and Claire Clairmont) and two poems: Stanzas written in dejection near Naples (autograph) and The Aziola (in the hand of Mary Shelley). Collection also contains six autograph letters of Mary Shelley, one of Lord Byron, and one contemporary manuscript copy of a Shelley letter, as well as a sketch and a manuscript copy of Watson-Taylor's Old Hag in a Red Cloak.
