Summary
Concerning Claire's desire to see her daughter Allegra, remarking that Shelley has no idea what Claire's letters to Byron contain but saying that her vexation at Byron's refusal to grant her request is "in the usual order of things." Noting Claire is "very unhappy & in bad health & she ought to be treated with as much indulgence as possible." Discussing Shelley's refusal to encourage her or to pass her messages to Byron, but offering to convey Byron's message to her; asking him to regularly send Claire reports of Allegra's health, noting "you can write to me, or make your secretary write to her (as you do not like writing yourself) or arrange it in any manner most convenient to you." Discussing Byron's recent visit to London, saying that if he returns to England and leaves Allegra in Italy, that Claire should be granted permission to see her then. Asking after Byron's work on Don Juan.
