Summary
Concerning a lack of intelligence reports and the inability to prepare adequately for an enemy attack; saying that "... Since the 17th last I understand no direct intelligence has been received from Sir John Moore[.] I am fearful that his communication with Almeida is intercepted; at this point all preparations for Embarkation are made Should the Enemy invade this Country as our force of the British and Hanoverian Troops will not be Sufficient to Stop the progress of an Enemy if a Considerable Corps should advance;" reporting that the Portuguese are ill prepared for an attack; reporting that the women, children and the sick have embarked; expressing his hope that he can send him good news of success by Sir John Moore "of which I have not the least doubt unless he has to Cope with too great a Superiority."
