Concerning her longing to return to Italy; discussing mutual friends, noting that "dear Miss L. (Mary Lamb) has escaped this year without one of her painful visitations;" relating an episode concerning [John] Poole and [Robert William] Elliston; asking if she has seen "W. Irvin" [i.e., Washington Irving], asking Holcroft to remember Shelley to him; mentioning that [Thomas] Moore is in London and that Newton the painter spent five weeks at Sir W.S.'s [Walter Scott's] estate at Abbotsford painting "a very clever picture of a hypocondriacal Dandy." Discussing the health of both of their families. Incorporating an 8-line poem beginning "God of the best the brightest."
