Summary
Acknowledging how helpful his Hymns have been to him "in times of enquiry and search after truth for the matter so contained in them is so pleasant the numbers so sweet and the theme so Heavenly that it at once convinced me of that Gospel duty of singing the praises of God both in publick worship and private retirement. I acknowledge sir, that for many years I was so biggoted against singing and even against posey it self, that I even accounted singing a novel thing and posey but a prophane amusement;" adding that he now sees the virtue of singing in public worship; including two poems, dated "Highworth Sept. 15, 1740;" the first "To the Reverend Dr. Isaac Watts . on being convinced that singing is / a part of Gospel Worship" and "To Dr. Isaac Watts on his seventh / Edition of his Horæ Lyricæ."
