Summary
Expressing surprise that Greene has not received his letters; giving him an update on the movement of troops following the victory at Yorktown; informing him that he is sending troops to join Greene's army; noting that the French fleet has left Chesapeake Bay; adding that he is traveling to Philadelphia to "stimulate Congress to the best Improvement of our late success, by takg. the most vigorous and effectual Measures, to be ready for an early and decisive Campaign the next Year"; expressing his fears that Congress will make too much of the victory at Yorktown and "may think our Work too nearly closed, and will fall into a State of Langour and Relaxation"; stressing the importance of being ready for war: "our Grand Object is to be prepared in every point for War; not that we wish its continuance, but that we may be in the best Situation to meet every Event"; asking him to let him know whether the British fleet "drops a Reinforcement at Charlestown."
