Discussing his time in Bath; remarking that men who don't play [cards] are considered "very insignificant" in Bath; reporting that Lord Chesterfield thinks Garrick "not only the best tragedian now in the world, but the best ... that ever was in the world"; adding that Chesterfield does not like Garrick's comedy; saying that he asked if Lord Chesterfield would give Garrick his protection, but Chesterfield replied that Garrick "wanted no protection"; telling him that he has been suffering from gout in his hand; mentioning [Samuel] Johnson.
