Summary
Referring to the sale of commissions; offering to testify at the House of Commons in support of the Duke of York; saying "My evidence will go to prove that in the course of a period of 7 years, in which I carried on the most extensive business as an army agent, except that of Mess'rs Greenwood & Co., and of course was in the habit of seeing & living with a great number of Officers I never heard the smallest surmise of the promotion of the army having been obtained by any undue influence, but on the Contrary I have heard it asserted often without contradiction, that His Royal Highness had exerted himself successfully in improving the army particularly by selecting the most proper subjects for the important situation of Field Officers. Such evidence from a man totally unconnected with his Royal Highness who was under no kind of obligation to him whatever may have some weight with the House."
