Summary
Commenting on the condition of those who championed "the virtuous Cause" and expressing "an honest indignation" towards the States who are not honoring the "claims of public Creditors;" asking him to "rescind a former resolve not to allow any other than a Denizen of America to be eligible to the Consular Office in Foreign Countries;" informing him that he has retired to Alexandria but is still active in his "merchantile line" and would welcome an opportunity to be recommended to participate in the expanding trade with New England; saying "Both Maryland and this State have happily concurred in the design of opening this River, Potowmack, from Tidewater to the highest place practicable in the North branch, which besides the extent of 400 miles on said river, affords an unbounded prospect from that communication within 22 miles of the western waters."
