Concerning the application which he received in error for a Consulship in China; suggesting he send it to Lord Aberdeen "...where however I can tell you it will be to be considered in company with at least 100 others, so eager are people to go out to China. Ten I should think would be likely to have Mr. Thompson's Special qualification of speaking the Chinese Language."
