Enclosing a piece for possible publication in the next issue; expressing his concern over the absence of a letter from him; asking him not to leak the identity of "John C." to Mrs. C.; regarding an article that he may find "a trifle severe" and complimenting the effort of "the author of the article against me"; expressing his fear that The Journal thinks he is double-crossing them, although "Martindale knows that Harding and I are on the best of terms"; asking him to show The Journal his letter, including the post-scripts, as proof of his loyalty, should they ever inquire.
