Dating from a penciled note on the front paste down reading: "When Moore (1811) conceived the idea of Lalla Rookh, Longman immediately offered him £3000 for the Ms. when completed -- and paid him that price in 1816. This draft was finished in 1815 when Moore offered to submit it for approval to Longman, who refused, saying that they had unbounded confidence in him."
Written on the rectos and some versos of 187 p., with extensive revisions and corrections by the author throughout. Some corrections and additions on the left hand pages are practically identical with those portions of the poem as finally printed.
Complete, except for the last poem, "The light of the harem." The contents of the manuscript are: 1) Paradise and the peri (here called The forgiven peri), 2) The fireworshippers, and 3) The veiled prophet of Khorassan (here called The prophet of the silent veil).
